Shell’s onshore wind portfolio includes four joint venture interests spanning six operating wind projects, all of which are 50:50 non-operated ventures (NOVs). Our share of the energy capacity from our US projects is about 425 megawatts. Shell also maintains 50% interest in one offshore wind park, NoordZee Wind, in the Netherlands.
In October 2001, Rock River started to deliver clean, renewable wind power. The wind farm consists of 49 1 MW Mitsubishi turbines and produces enough power for approximately 25,000 households. Rock River is co-owned with Terra-Gen.The49 megawatt (MW) wind power facility is located 60km west of Laramie, Carbon County, Wyoming.
NedPower Mount Storm, whose construction began in 2006, is located about 120 miles west of Washington, D.C. in Grant County, West Virginia. It consists of 132 wind turbines along 12 miles of the Allegheny Front, and can generate enough electricity to power approximately 66,000 households and businesses. NedPower Mount Storm is co-owned with Dominion.
Brazos wind farm is located in Fluvanna, Texas, 70miles southeast of Lubbock, atop the Caprock of the Llano Estacado. The 160 MW site consists of 160 Mitsubishi 1 MW turbines and provides enough energy to power approximately 48,000 households.
The 61.5 MW wind farm is located in the San Gorgonio Pass area, 9 miles northwest of Palm Springs, California, and began operations in September 2002. San Gorgonio Pass has more than 1,400 turbines installed generating over520 MW. Whitewater Hill consists of 41 1.5 MW GE Wind Energy turbines. Annually, the project is estimated to produce enough energy to power approximately 12,000 households. Whitewater Hill is co-owned with Terra-Gen.
The 41 MW wind farm is located in the San Gorgonio Pass west of Palm Springs, California. The San Gorgonio Pass is one of the most established wind energy areas in the US, home to hundreds of turbines that have been installed since the 1980s. Cabazon began operations in September 2002. It includes 62 660 KW turbines . Each year, the project is estimated to produce enough electricityto power approximately 12,000 households. Cabazon is co-owned with Terra-Gen.
